Free Chart: Wedding Card

My sister Jessica recently got married to her lovely new husband, Danny after 3 1/2 years together. She asked me to be her bridesmaid, which was lovely of her and I really enjoyed it, (despite the stress of helping plan a wedding, and making sure everything runs smoothly. She tied the knot at Brownsover Hall Hotel, which was an absolutely beautiful setting. The whole day was lovely, (although over to quickly). As she's my favouritist sister in the whole wide world (and my only one) there was no question that I wanted to make her a special wedding card for the big day, which, now that it is all over, I am sharing with you!

I used a dark red and gold for the heart border, and a sparling champagne coloured thread for the champagne glasses. I sued 1 strand of thread for all the stitching, including the backstitch. I stitched this on a 22 count even weave, which gave a finished size of 10.5cm (4") x 15.5cm (6"), perfect for an A4 card. On 14count aida the finished size is 16cm (6.5") x 24cm (9.5"). For techniques on finishing the card, please see my Project Tutorials page. I used the same technique as I did for the embroidered bicycle card but I used gold card instead, with a pearlised red card border. Unfortunately I don't have a photo of the finished card, I didn't get round to making it until a few days before the wedding!

Happy stitching

Friday Finds: Wedding Hair

I'm in the midst of starting to plan my sisters hen do, and everything is very weddingy at the moment. Most things are booked in, and her dress and accessories are all sorted and sitting waiting for her at my parents house. However, there are so many small details for brides to think about that I'll hopefully help inspire you with todays selection of bridal headwear!

Loizou Designs' delicate flower tiara is perfect for the boho bride, or those who just want to get back to nature. I love the fairy-like softness of this intricate design, helping you be a fairy princess for a day.

If you've spent years dreaming of being a princess bride on your wedding day, and glitz, glam and glitter and sparkling throughout your big day, then check out this Swarovski crystal tiara by Hollywood Designs UK, it could be just the one for you.

If understated elegance is what you're looking for you can't go wrong with these pretty pink pearl and sparkling Swarovski crystal hair pins from jewellery made by me. Alternatively they would dress up your bridesmaids hair as a perfect compliment to your own.

For something a bit different how about trying out some kanzashi? These beautiful flowers are hand folded by the very talented Kitty Kanzashi to create a lovely, unusual bridal hair piece. Make you're extra special by ordering a unique custom made design.

Wedding Cross Stitch Kits

After a weekend spent making wedding Invitatio0ns and shopping for bridesmaids dresses (my sister is tying the knot in November) you might think I've had enough of wedding things for a few days (Ok, I have really) but it has inspired my latest cross stitch kits, charts, and patterns search. After all, the wedding favours for the girls are cross stitch scented bags (I have made 1 and a bit so far for my sister, they take ages!) and I have a few other embroidery ideas for the Hen do, depending on time. So, here are just a few of the very many wedding cross stitch kits out there!

Friday Finds: Wedding Invitations

I'm off to visit my sister Jessica and her fiancé Danny this weekend, (in fact, it is quite likely that I am either on a train heading there, or busily chatting away whit them already) I really enjoying seeing my sister, she's just under 2 years younger than me and we've always been pretty close, she is definitely a good friend and not just my younger sibling.

As she's getting married in November, this weekend will include a fair amount of wedding planning, gossiping, and all round wedding and girly fun. However, one of things we're hoping to accomplish is to decide what wedding invitations to make. Both of us enjoy cross stitch - (in fact she's making some cross stitch wedding favours, but more about that later) and we've both made cards in the past, so it's only natural to make the wedding invitations ourselves. (Besides, it's another good excuse to craft and gossip over a bottle of wine, right?) While this weekend is all about making a mock up and working out how and what to make, I figured the first place to start was by having a browse at what's out there for ideas and inspiration, and I've no doubt that my sister and her fiancé have done some of the same. It made sense to begin my browsing on Etsy as all invitations on there are made by people, not machines, and are much more unique and interesting than standard shop bought invitations, so here are a few favourites.

The lovebirds are really cute yet also manage to be very chic, with a funky vintage style to them. Crafty Pagan can also customise the design to your colour theme (the listing has a useful colour chart) and also sells many other gorgeous wedding stationary.

This extremely elegant lace design is the creation of the talented Betsy Button. Each one is hand stitched so make sure you leave plenty of time, but the sophisticated beauty of these invitations will more than make the wait worthwhile.

A Dollop of Inspiration are behind this colourful butterfly design. The invitation opens like a blooming flower. The pink, lilac and blue shades compliment each other in a lovely way to finish this beautiful design for a spring wedding.

This design had to be featured because the names are those of my sister and her fiancé! What a coincidence! The unusual jam jar design is very rustic, and this would be the perfect invitation for a simple, rustic wedding. The faded colours also add a touch of vintage to this invitation by Aesthetic Journeys.

Invites Couture are the shop to browse for a super luxurious extremely memorable way to present your wedding invitation. This silk wedding invitation box is embellished with a crystal and pearl brooch, and has several slots inside for the invitations. It is customisable to any colour.

Happy browsing!

Friday Find: Chairs

Yesterday I was sat at my computer on my lunch break at work (I'm a cell biologist) wondering what to feature this week. It's my best friends next week so I considered all the things she likes, either things with Celtic patterns, dolphins, or books. Then I reconsidered. I've bought her a gift from Etsy, so I'm planning on including that next week already (once she's received it).

So, being no closer to choosing a theme, I thought about my previous ones. Flower jewellery, sunflowers, sheep, hobbits, and Union Jacks. And I realised, they're all things. they're either pretty objects or creatures, or fantasy characters. With the exception of sheep, they're all there for decoration. None of them are useful things. Granted, we use them, but that's different. We don;t need them in the same way we do a chair for example. We spend a lot of time sat down, especially with time spent in offices, driving, or simply watching TV. We need chairs in a way we don't need hobbits, or jewellery, or sunflowers. But just because we need them doesn't mean they have to be dull and boring. It also doesn't mean that we can't find ingenious ways to use them.

I love this chair. I love the bright aqua colours, the bold peacock feather pattern, I love the shape. This chair looks pretty, and it looks comfy. Even better, it is an antique armchair that has been beautifully upcycled by Sittin Pretty Designs, so it's environmentally friendly too!

I'm sure that all cat owners out there have come home, tired after a day's work, ready to relax on their favourite chair, only to find the cat sleeping there instead. Are they innocent, just looking for a comfy space to curl up on, or do they know, secretly grinning away to themselves. If Cleopatra NYC's cheeky cat earrings are to be believed, it's definitely the latter.

We'd all like to find Mr Right, but we all know that men get things wrong. You find a man you think is right for you, but there will still be times when he just doesn't understand you and just gets things wrong. No matter how many times we change our minds, or suggest strange things, we do it because we KNOW that we are right. On your wedding day, it's important to give the man in your life a gentle reminder, and these chair backs by The Pink Lantern are perfect for that!

Of course, it's not just men that cause trouble, the little ones do it too. These cute little chairs by Wooden Whimsies are perfect for teaching a bit of discipline, and have proved very popular.

Sometimes, things that can seem fairly plain and boring can be turned into pretty cute and funky designs, and this swirly heart chair necklace design by Treasured Charms is no exception.

After all of that, we mustn't forget that a chair is there for us. To sit and relax on, to munch our food from, to work on all day long, but most of all to rest our weary legs. Hope ink has artfully created this bold and bright illustration to remind us of their importance in our lives. It's also available in a range of colours.

Happy Shopping!
