Scotland Cross Stitch

I am off to "sunny" Scotland tomorrow for a week long walking holiday with a group of friends. I'm really looking forward to going away, which is good because the house we're staying in is in the middle of nowhere. It'll be great going away with a bunch of friends, especially as it's been a while since I saw some of them.

I'm expecting lots of rain, lots of midges, and lots of cold. Ok, I know rain should help keep the midges away, but if I expect them all and only suffer 2 of the 3 then I reckon we'll be doing ok.

If you have never been to Scotland, I thoroughly recommend it. Scotland is an absolutely beautiful country, great for hiking (and skiing, although I've never skied). Edinburgh is a lovely city, with a lot of history, and of course, there's Nessie (Loch Ness Monster) to go looking for, bagpipes to listen to, men in kilts (oh la la!) lots of whisky, and that's just to name a few!

If Scotland is more of a dream than a reality at the moment, then how about stitching some of these Scottish related cross stitch kits and patterns, to tide you over until you can go.

Nice Ass Subversive Cross Stitch

Quite a while ago I fancied myself as a cross stitch chart designer. (Ok, I still do, I just haven't had the time to create many new designs recently). I was looking through my old patterns, and came across my Nice Ass subversive cross stitch sampler chart pattern. It's cheeky, it's funny, and best of all, it's a simple and quick cross stitch to embroider. With only 3 colours, and only full cross stitches, what more could you want!

This chart is now available on EBay, so if you fancy trying out a cross stitch then head over there because this design is perfect for beginners, and everyone else too!

Happy Stitching!

Friday Finds: Denim Delights.

For reasons unfathomable, I have always wanted to be the owner of a denim skirt. It was only 2 weeks ago when my denim fashion desire was finally sated, with the purchase of a cute short denim skirt on a shopping trip to Meadowhall. Needless to say, it has already been taken out plenty of times since I got it. Denim, however, does not to be restricted to items of clothing, here a just a few other ideas to give your life a splash of denim.

A cute denim bag is the obvious alternative to clothing. I adore this tote bag by Poppy Patchwork. The band of daisies gives this patchwork piece a feminine edge, and the beaded cord ties make it perfect for hauling your gear around this summer.

Craftbox Creations have made this beautiful latch hook rug in a fabulous flower and butterfly design, using pieces of denim. It looks so soft and comfy that I want to wriggle my bare toes amongst it!

For something a bit more unusual, head over to Les Bijoux De Claire for this statement denim rose necklace. It will definitely give your outfit a unique cool look. Who knew denim could be so elegant?

Kids love denim too, so how about treating your little girl to a cute pony toy this to keep her and her friends busy this summer? Ptarrh have made this fabulous denim horse cuddly toy, which will make your child the envy of her pals.

Add a splash of floral colour  to your blue denim like MinXtures have for this cute appliqued cushion. It would look great in a teenage girls bedroom, or for your sofa to relax on in front of a good movie.

Friday Finds: Farms

Please say that you are also amazed by how quickly the weeks are going by. How is it already time for another Friday Finds! I must confess it has crept up on me after a busy week, so I resorted to my face book page and loyal followers to inspire me for todays post, and I am very happy to report that I was not disappointed. Michelle suggested Sheep as todays theme, however I have previously used Sheep as my theme. She has still inspired me though, sheep are very much a farmed animal, and with the beginning of may new lambs are merrily prancing in the fields, and tractors are busy fertilising and planting. In our agricultural land there is no shortage of beautiful farm inspired items, and here are but a few.

No farm yard is complete without pigs, and House of Ismay have added a literary twist to not only pigs, but many other animals with these quirky brooches made from old copies of books.

This funky farm invitation, courtesy of Sandy Ford Design is personalised for your child, to make their birthday extra special. Check out her shop for other colourful themes.

Farms by default are messy places, and willies are invaluable. but wellies are fantastic at festivals, in the rain, or even walking. make yours stand out from the crowd by knitting your very own welly topper from Wessenden Woolies

The Spice Artist have a wide choice of funny sheep inspired original paintings and prints by Merve. The bold designs draw the eye and spread a smile.

The farm yard inspiration behind Jandee Designs is obvious with this cute tote bag. It makes the perfect useful accessory for the farm fashion conscious country bumpkin.

Friday Finds: Wales

This post theme was requested of me before Easter by my lovely half Welsh friend (who I think sometimes forgets that's she's half English too). I've written an Union Jack Friday Finds previously, so why not a Welsh one too, after all, there is plenty of Welsh blood around (I'm pretty sure everyone I know has a Welsh grandma or something. We're all mongrels in the UK really, especially if you keep going back through our history).

Besides, Wales is a beautiful country. I have spent several holidays and weekends away there in my 26years, staying in Pembrokeshire, Bangor, Aberystwyth and Snowdonia to include but a few. So, it seems right to feature items from/ for such a beautiful country.

The Welsh flag seems to be the right place to start the search, and it wasn't long before I discovered these fabulous cuff links by Urban Eye. These will make the perfect gift for the Welsh Man in your life, and if he isn't Welsh they can customise these to the country of your choice!

There is a certain appeal about real slate place mats, coasters and cheeseboards. I would love to have some of my own, (and will one day). If you're like me and the understand elegance and class makes you excited, then head over to Identilase for a wide choice of Welsh slate. This cheeseboard is engraved with CAWS, which is Welsh for... you've guessed it, Cheese! They also have a website  www.valleymill.co.uk

Cathryn Weatherhead is the lady who created this bold and beautiful traveller's map of Wales. Whether you're an adventurer, a camper, or an explorer this funky Welsh map will not only remind you of your Welsh experiences, it'll have you going back for more!

Another one for the boys (although I don't know why tankards are just for boys, I am a Real Ale drinker and would love one of my own) is this fabulous stainless steel tankard. Makers Celtic Studio have covered plenty of bases here with the Welsh dragon design. Check out their other Welsh and Celtic items too!

If, like me, you go  on holiday and then later on realise that you didn't buy that lovely 'insert souvenir here' that you saw because the shop wasn't open/you were heading out/e.t.c then worry no more. This beautiful original watercolour by Pamela Jones Art Studio  is one of several designs that will bring back fond memories of a lovely sunny walk in Wales (it doesn't rain all the time).

Happy browsing!

Friday Finds: Chic Chicks

OK, so it's Good Friday, it's actually sunny, and I'm being a bit stereotypical with this weeks Chick theme, but hey, sometimes it just has to be done. After all, who doesn't like baby animals. They're cute, they're small and their furry (or feathery, in this case). I remember being fascinated by chicks hatching when we incubated some eggs at school, as these damp, awkward beings broke free and vastly expanded their world. They dry off and get used to being able to use their newly discovered legs and wings in no time at all, and soon evolve into chirruping fluffy babies. A few weeks later they're bigger and losing their down as they become adults. Somehow Chickens lack the same cuteness factor. If I was going to get all philosophical I could try and explore the reasons why, is I the youth of chicks that's appealing, or the potential they have to become anything. Is it because they are more unusual simply because they have yet to mature. Is it because their youth, and their care free existence appeals, or because their new born awkwardness is amusing? Whatever it is, all baby creatures have some appeal, and Chicks are one of the most accessible ones. If you want a cute chick of your own, then head over to these fabulous crafters Etsy Shops for their Chic Chick creations.

This bashful chick is really cute. It reminds me of playing dress up when I was a girl. It's a perfect spring pendant. Head over to IMcreations for this and many more beautiful Scrabble Tile pendants.

May Crimson is behind this pair of cool chicks. These funky hairclips are perfect for your little girl. Don't forget to check out her other non slip hairclips for more fun designs.

If you're a big girl looking for some fun accessories, then check out these Hen and Chick badges. Created by Kaela Mills these are great for a Hen do avoiding the 'Bride' and 'Stacey's Hen Do' emblazoned t-shirts.

For a cute and homely chic chick then look no further than this adorable embroidery hoop floral pink chick, handmade by Three Red Apples. Her quirky design proves that chicks aren't just for Easter!

Chicks are sociable little things, and you can't get much happier than these two little beauties perched on their golden branch. Ukele's policy is dreamy things for dreamy people. Perfect!

Happy Easter!

Friday Finds: Easter Eggstravaganza!

Phew. How time flies. It's nearly the end of March already and (hopefully) will soon be spring. That means that Easter is fast approaching and before we know it it'll be summer and we'll all be away on our holidays!

So, I reckon its time to   s l o w   t h i n g s    d o w n .  Go and make yourself a cup of tea, or coffee, or wine, or whatever else takes your fancy. Take a deep breath - that's good -  and a moment to reflect on the year so far. Have you kept your new years resolutions? No?, ok, me neither. Is work going well, and things looking up in your personal life. Now take another deep breath. What do you want to achieve in the rest of the year ahead? Are you going for that promotion, or finally taking your dream holiday, getting married, moving house? Or simply enjoying life as it is. Take another deep breath.

There, feeling better? I hope so as you look forward to the months to come. Easter is a good time of year for past reflections and future hopes. The extra bank holidays been you have time to think about things and reflect, and gives you time to start planning for the next few months. Hopefully the weather starts to get better, which I always find makes me more active. And of course, there is celebration, and chocolate, and eggs! So, without further ado, here are some eggcelent Easter eggs!

I love this traditional hand felted Easter egg nest by Mmim. It looks so cosy and comfy, I wish I was a little chick and snuggle down in it!

If you like your Easter eggs to be brought by the traditional Easter bunny, then head over to Trina's Clay creations for this cute polymer clay bunny. It will make the perfect topping for your Simmel cake.

I love the originality of this fantastic idea from less candles. It is so simple and unique, it's bound to draw compliments.

Easter isn't all girly though, as this funky ninja with his quirky purple egg goes to show. If you have boys to please then place him on top of your Easter cake this year! Lilley also has plenty of other cool ninja items!

Giraffes Kiss has the perfect accessory for crème egg lovers. These unique earrings are the perfect gift for a chocolate loving, body conscious teenager, as these tasty looking eggs are calorie free!

Happy Easter!

Stumpwork Fancies

Stumpwork is a type of embroidery that incorporates 3D structures to create beautiful pieces. It is often used on leaves and flowers, but can be used in a variety of ways. After some lunch time stumpwork browsing, I discovered these beautiful pieces.

This beautiful Lilly Stumpwork is so good it looks real! Head over to Loretta's Custom Stitchery for more details and Stumpwork Instructions.

I love the boldness and brightness of this stylish purple stumpwork bird by Maison Bee on Deviant Art.

This cute deer stumpwork kit by Jane Nicholas Embroidery Kits  is one you could try for yourself.

All of these beautiful pieces of embroidery have reminded me of the Stumpwork kit I got ages ago, which I started but have done nothing on for months (if not longer) When it's finished it should look something like this

So far all I've done is the background leaf stitching and flower centre, and 1 1/2 petals, so it's probably time to free it from it's hiding and get stitching again.

Have you done any stumpwork? how was it?

Friday Finds: Bunny Rabbits

Last weekend I made the train journey back to Rugby, to stay with my sister in her brand new house. The walls are magnolia, everywhere was spotless, they were still waiting for a sofa to be delivered. But she had found time to add a couple of little cute bunny rabbits (Pippin and Orlando) to her new house.

When we were children I had a Guinea Pig Rabbit and she had a Rabbit, (well, 2 actually, as 1 died so the 2nd was a replacement; my little guinea pig was so depressed after the first one died), so it reminded me of nostalgic our childhood and day's spent busy playing with them in the garden. If you had a pet, be it a rabbit, cat, dog, cockatoo or goldfish (OK, maybe not the goldfish) you'll know what I mean. Playing with pets and cuddling them is always lovely. As such, today's theme is for all those bunny lovers!

Half Penny Bazaar have created these cute soft fleece baby blankets. They look so warm and perfect for cuddling up a newborn in. Don't worry though, it's also machine washable for when your darling baby is being a little messy pot!

This monochrome Rabbit coin purse is very striking. It's a perfect grown up way to subtly show off you're bunny love. Head over to Handmade Rasberry to check it out.

If it's a certain Peter Rabbit that tickles your fancy, then look no further than this adorable illustrated pendant by Lauras Jewellery for some vintage Beatrix Potter inspired necklaces.

Something about babies and bunnies just works well. For a special handmade baby girl congratulations card take a peek at this pretty design by Fluffy Duck. Don't worry, she has a boy bunny card too!

Kiln Fired Art have created this beautiful hand painted boxing rabbits bowl would look perfect displayed on a wooden dresser in a country kitchen. Get back to the country bumpkin inside you. If only i had a little house in the country (or space for a fancy dresser)....

Subversive Cross Stitch

Subversive Cross stitch is becoming ever more popular and widespread. It's cool, and quirky, it can be funny and a bit rude. It ranges from bad puns and geeky jokes to the more obvious naked lady's and swear words. It's a bit of fun and it's something a bit different, helping to drag cross stitch from the more traditional stitches to something more modern and steam punk.

Some of it I like, some of it I don't. Some of it is just too rude for me, (I'm really not a fan of swearing). The type that appeals to me most are the funny, cheeky, and humorous ones. The geeky ones (especially science, being one myself) and groan inducing bad jokes and puns. Cheeky fun appeals to me.

Most of my cross stitch is small things, jewellery, keyrings, bookmarks and cards, but I have recently started trying my hand at producing samplers. My first one (Home Sweet Home) is very much in the traditional style, and even looks a bit vintage when stitched onto natural coloured fabric in muted colours, rather than the retro brights available today.

I like it, but it's not particularly exciting. I fancied trying something a bit different, something a bit cooler, funkier, and definitely more modern. It didn't take much thought ( thanks to my reputation of smacking friends bums quite a lot) to come up with this effort, available here on my Etsy Shop.

Friday Finds: Movember!

It's the 2nd of Movember, and men everywhere are just starting to feel a tickle on their upper lip, as they grow their moustaches for a month to raise awareness and money for men's health, such as testicular cancer. You can find out more here.

This year my other half is partaking in Movember for the very first time, (I'm not sure he'll be able to grow much of a tashe though, and it'll take even longer to look like anything much as he's blond! I think he'd love to grow a tashe with curly bits at the end. I think that it'll take more than a month for that, but even so, there are plenty of other tashes around, and here are just a few, so us girls can get in on the tashe action too!

I like corsets, they are great for showing off the feminine form, but as this moustache corset from Kawii Parlor proves, they don't have to be pink or Lacy, they can be fun chic too!

If you love making things or customising clothes then check out these bold moustache buttons from T3ECHNO JARGON. They will add a quirkiness to any outfit, and come in a variety of colours.

Tashes aren't just for us though. This bright dog collar by Scampering Scotties is a cute adornment for your furry friend. Give you dog a tashe this Movember!

Quernus Crafts show that mice love tashe's too, although theirs have to be fake. This little mouse with his fake moustache is adorable, and he makes a lovely little cake topper!

Mix your Moustache with Mario in this funky vest top from We Are Young. With so many tashe's to choose from, its hard to pick a favourite!

It's small, it's retro and its purple! for a fancy tashe adornment look no further than Lauras Jewellery. She has lots of cool designs, and this brooch is available in loads of colours and patterns.

Happy moustache growing for Movember!
